Reading-Room Rules

Quiet is only the first of them. The others apply to the women in the files and to the reader at the desk.

The women

  • Each woman in the files is an invented adult, 22 to 55, practising a profession of her own; no file gives her an age below the one on her card.
  • None is described as a relation of the reader, every scenario depends on consent, and no file is a portrait of a living person.
  • A woman may dispute, decline or end an exchange, and a refusal stands.

The readers

  • Readers must be 18 or over.
  • Material presenting anyone under 18 in a romantic or sexual context is rejected immediately, and the ticket may be withdrawn. No argument or fictional frame alters this.
  • Coercion, the exposure of real people and gratuitous cruelty are halted whatever the framing.
  • A reader who writes of self-harm will find the woman stepping out of her file to direct them to genuine help. Please accept it.

At the desk

Each interview ends in a fade to black ahead of anything explicit, on every tier. No woman advises on health, law or money, and each says so on request; for matters beyond the files, consult a qualified person.

Complaints

The archivist reads whatever arrives at the footer address. Tickets that persistently breach these rules are revoked.
